The main activity of the Bank of Russia (Central Bank of the Russian Federation) is to ensure the stability of the national currency, the ruble, and to supervise the country's financial system. It offers services related to monetary policy, the regulation and supervision of financial institutions, the management of international reserves, as well as the issuance of currency. The Bank of Russia primarily serves the financial sector, banking institutions, the Russian government and, indirectly, the entire national economy and Russian citizens.

The founder of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation (Bank of Russia) is the Russian state, with the bank having been established in 1990 following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The Bank of Russia is the country’s main monetary authority.
