History
KBC is a Belgian banking and insurance group whose history dates back to the 1998 merger of three major institutions: Crédit Communal de Belgique, Banque CERA, and ABB Assurances. This merger created an integrated financial player, combining banking and insurance activities, mainly focused on Belgium and Central Europe.
The key stages in KBC's development include:
- Creation (1998): Merger of Crédit Communal, Banque CERA, and ABB Assurances, forming the KBC group.
- Product development: KBC offers a wide range of banking products (accounts, cards, loans, investments) and insurance (car, home, health, life, etc.), for both individuals and businesses.
- Digital innovation: Launch of KBC Mobile, one of the most awarded banking apps in the world, allowing users to manage their finances, insurance, and access numerous digital services.
- Partnerships and acquisitions: KBC has expanded internationally, particularly in Central Europe (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Bulgaria) through acquisitions and strategic partnerships.
- Strategic changes: After the 2008 financial crisis, KBC refocused its activities on its main markets and committed to a sustainability policy, with initiatives for the environment, society, and governance.
- Social commitment: KBC emphasizes sustainability and innovation, supporting projects for a more sustainable world and integrating social responsibility into its strategy.
Today, KBC is a leader in the financial sector in Belgium and a major player in Central Europe, recognized for its integrated bank-insurance offering and digital orientation.
