History
SDX (SIX Digital Exchange) is the first fully regulated financial market infrastructure dedicated to digital assets. A subsidiary of the SIX Group, one of Europe’s leading providers of financial market infrastructure, SDX aims to revolutionize the functioning of financial markets through blockchain technology (Distributed Ledger Technology, DLT).
Key milestones in the history and development of SDX:
- Creation and launch: SDX was created to meet the growing needs for the digitalization of financial markets. The company officially launched its operations in the fourth quarter of 2021, thus becoming the first fully regulated digital financial market infrastructure by FINMA (the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority).
- Infrastructure development: SDX has built a blockchain-based platform enabling the issuance, trading, settlement, and custody of digital assets, including tokenized securities and cryptocurrencies. This infrastructure aims to eliminate intermediaries, reduce settlement times, improve liquidity, and lower the costs of traditional financial transactions.
- Products and services: SDX offers a range of services around digital assets, including the issuance of digital bonds, digital equity, as well as services related to central bank digital currency for the interbank market (wholesale CBDC). SDX Web3 expands the institutional offering with cryptocurrency custody and trading services, as well as digital collateral solutions.
- Partnerships and ecosystem: SDX collaborates with numerous players in the financial sector, both globally (R3, ISSA, Tenity) and locally (Crypto Valley, CMTA, Digital Switzerland, Swiss Blockchain Federation), to build a strong ecosystem around digital assets.
- Pilot projects and innovations: SDX has conducted several pilot projects, notably with Pictet Bank, for the tokenization and fractionalization of financial assets, paving the way for increased customization of financial products.
- Regulation and security: SDX operates within a strict regulatory framework, ensuring compliance and transaction security. The company emphasizes transparency, traceability, and risk reduction through automation and the use of smart contracts.
Today, SDX positions itself as a pioneer in the institutional adoption of blockchain technology in finance, offering a robust, transparent, and efficient infrastructure for the development of digital asset markets.
